The sound of a branch breaking in a forest after rain.

Snapped Pine is a Wuyi rock oolong that opens like a weather event. The first note is immediate and vivid: wet wood after rain, the smell of a forest floor recently soaked and beginning to warm in returning sunlight. Then the fireplace note arrives, smoky and contained, like the tail end of a wood fire in a cold room. Pine trees. Pine nuts. And then, unexpectedly, a bright, lifting thread of bergamot that cuts through the darkness and draws the whole profile upward. Cliff-grown in Wuyi Mountain, Fujian, in 2024, this is a yancha of genuine drama. It does not unfold quietly.

The Dry Leaf

Sturdy, dark, charcoal-fired twisted leaves releasing a sharp, refreshing scent of pine resin and smoked wood.

The Soup

Pours a rich, beautifully dark amber liquor, perfectly clear and heavy in the glass.

Fragrance & Palate

The entrance is bold, smoky, and immediately present. Waves of wet wood after rain and a contained fireplace smoke fill the mouth, met by the rich texture of roasted pine nuts. Through the mid-steeps, a clean, lifting thread of bergamot arrives, cutting elegantly through the darkness. The rock rhyme (yan yun) operates as a clean mineral coolness running steadily beneath the warmth.

Spiritual Character

The Energy: Warm and highly stimulating. It shocks the senses into alignment, dispels lethargy, and sparks creative observation.

The Hour: Made for crisp afternoons, rainy days when the mind desires complexity, or any moment that calls for genuine sensory drama.

Lineage & Terroir

Lineage & History Snapped Pine is a dramatic 2024 Wuyi rock oolong that unfolds like a mountain storm. It demands rigorous processing: a precise solar wilt, hard bruising to initiate complete oxidation, and a multi-stage heavy charcoal roasting. This intense firing technique locks in the vivid, initial notes of wet wood and smoky fireplace, while allowing an unexpected, brilliant flash of lifting bergamot to cut through the darkness.

Terroir & Microclimate Grown on the volcanic cliffs of Wuyi Mountain in Fujian Province, the tea bushes endure a harsh, rocky existence. The mineral-dense cliffside environment produces a highly structural leaf. It is this deep connection to the ancient stone that generates the tea's clean mineral coolness (yan yun), acting as a sturdy frame for the rich flavors of roasted pine nuts and smoked wood.

Brewing & Pairings

This highly structural 2024 yancha requires uncompromised, roaring boiling water to release its dense pine resin and smoke notes. Use full 100°C heat.

Vessel: Heavy clay teapot or thick structural porcelain gaiwan

Ratio: 4g per 200ml

Water Temperature: 100°C (212°F)

First Rinse: 5 seconds then discarded, immediately triggering the bold fireplace and wet forest aromas

Steeps: 10 or more successive infusions, maintaining steady heat retention throughout the entire session

Teaware Pairing

Pair this dramatic oolong with a thick-walled clay vessel that anchors the intense smoky wood and pine nut notes, providing a sturdy frame for the unexpected bergamot lift.

Suitable Teawares

A volcanic, dramatic oolong that opens like a mountain storm, breaking through deep smoke with a brilliant flash of bergamot.
